Our Sakura design is one of true beauty, including hand-painted artwork on the saya, custom cherry blossom habaki engraving, and an exclusive pink-tinted rayskin. This Katana is made of 9260 Spring Steel which can withstand a high degree of bending and still spring back true. The blade has great durability and also better resistance to abrasion and corrosion than other high carbon steel blades. The blade is full tang and hand sharpened, suitable for battle. The sword comes with silk ito and sageo, genuine rayskin, copper fittings, painted hardwood saya, and brass habaki and seppa. This sword is a very good choice for dojo and iaido use, gifts, cutting practice, display, and collection. It is durable enough for cutting tatami mats and bamboo. Each sword is fully handmade from the ground up, no two blades will be exactly alike.

We also send pictures of the finished sword for your approval (and excitement!) before shipping. Other companies may accept orders and rush to fulfill them as soon as possible, whereas all of our swords are hand-forged and made to order by master smiths using the time-honored traditional Japanese & Chinese techniques. These swords are not fashioned on an assembly line; each is crafted with the care & respect the heritage deserves.
We refer to Japanese Quality to emphasize the difference from swords that are Made in China and of low quality & mass produced. All of our swords are fully handmade-to-order in the traditional way they have been forged for many generations. Many Longquan swordsmiths received their knowledge directly from Japanese forges; there is a rich history of information sharing between the two cultures. In these modern times, a Japanese Katana and a Longquan Katana are functionally the same.
Forever guarantee: We stand behind the quality of our swords. After your sword is created at the forge, we will send you pictures and will only ship after your approval. If at any time you have issues with the craftsmanship of your sword, please reach out to us and we will do our best to make things right.
Unless indicated otherwise, every sword is hand-forged and made-to-order for a high-quality & unique product created for you. This intricate process takes 3-4 weeks to complete. We’ll send pictures of your sword by email for confirmation (please whitelist sales@swordsofnorthshire.com to make sure you get our email). Tanto and wakizashi swords usually take around 4 weeks. Highly customized swords such as blades of a custom length or custom painted scabbards will typically take 4-5 weeks. For most orders, we estimate 4-6 weeks from the time the order is submitted to when you receive it. If you need a sword by a specific date or within a shorter time frame, contact us and we can see about prioritizing your order.
We ship to anywhere in the United States for free! For all other countries, we offer a flat shipping rate of $19.
Customers are responsible for customs taxes & duties.
Yes, you can customize every sword on our website. Even if you’re not happy with the existing options available to you, you can request just about any change you could think of. We can change most fittings, wrappings, and blade coloring (black, red, or blue) for free. These kinds of requests can be made in the order comments section during checkout. If what you need done is more complex and might cost extra, please contact us with your request. If you make a request in the comments section when ordering your sword and it happens to cost extra we’ll kindly follow-up and explain the cost difference and send an invoice for the cost if you’re happy with it.

Thank for this. I had been wondering if this would really be a sharpened functional sword or just something they give Americans but kind of a prop. It is for a special project with a friend but also for exercise and discipline. Even if it will cause the blade to eventually have to be re-sharpened, it seems more honoring of the katana to use it for exercise so I carefully do this following guidance on proper sword practices, and find a lot of enjoyment, exercise, and full functionality setting up water bottles and other targets here in New Mexico scrub. I am luck to have private land, so I can attach them at all angles prior to recycling, and practice getting technique correct for a clean strike. If I miss, I have good exercise to pick up the bottle from where it lands. If I get the strike correct with this well balanced functional yet beautiful katana it cleanly cuts the bottle perfectly. So I know it was made with a lot of care. I have since promised my friend once I learn the technique well, and they do as well, I will get them the ultimate Carbon blade with clay fired edge. For now Spring Steel is prefect as we learn our techniques, it holds together very well with wonderful durability. After practice there is a feeling of exercise across the whole body (because setting up the proper strike requires good stance and core conditioning as well as development of the arms) and the spirit of the blade is honored through use, peacefully, but striving toward growth. Overall, the Sword is beautiful. The design is exactly what I was expecting from the pictures received. Every part of the sword is amazing, however when I selected the hand sharpened blade, I thought it would have been razor sharp, or at least sharp like a pocket knife. It came sharp but barely able to cut paper sharp. Other than the sharpness, excellent sword, will be buying more!

great feel, looks even better. well balanced, sharp. saya had a few issues, seemingly had bits of fur or something underneath a sort of stencil thing for the sakura and mountain decals that were meant to be hand painted, but beyond that, beautiful blade.
