I requested a spring steel blade with no bo-hi, dyed red. I LOVE IT! The blade is perfect. No wavy lines and straight as an arrow. It has great balance for a katana. You can feel the power in it. I wanted it sharpened for heavy cutting and it is much sharper than I expected, especially the tip. The handle is not too big and it feels great. The sword fits the Saya perfect, right out of the box. The red etching on the blade looks awesome. It does not reflect much light at all, but you can see a reflection in it when you look closely. I was looking all over the place for a good katana, but I couldn't find one that I actually liked everything about it. What a find with Swords of the Northshire! I have purchased 2 Swords from Swords of Northshire. One a custom Katana. The Katana was a beautiful piece of functional art. An amazing piece. I also purchased a Wakizashi. There were some minor imperfections in the edge geometry. Northshire paid the return shipping and replaced the entire blade at their expense. I'm very pleased with my custom katana. The blade is smooth and the polish shows the folding and hamon exceptionally well. It's lighter than what I'm used to. I own a number of Cheness and Hanwei blades and this one is by far the most maneuverable and well balanced. It slices through small dowels, PVC pipe and bamboo like through butter. After some 20 hours of use it shows no significant scratches and is as sharp as new. The fittings are all tight and the ito has not moved an inch, which is a common problem with many of my other swords. The habaki is nicely fitted to the blade as opposed to the blade being filed to fit. The saya is a little loose which sometimes causes the blade to cut into the wood while re-sheathing but this is a common problem with many katana and easily solved with proper technique. Although I've not measured, it seems like the Sakihaba and Monouchi is a little thicker than the rest of the blade which makes it nice for cutting. The customer service was exceptional and delivery was fast. I will certainly recommend these blades to others.

We refer to Japanese Quality to emphasize the difference from swords that are Made in China and of low quality & mass produced. All of our swords are fully handmade-to-order in the traditional way they have been forged for many generations. Many Longquan swordsmiths received their knowledge directly from Japanese forges; there is a rich history of information sharing between the two cultures. In these modern times, a Japanese Katana and a Longquan Katana are functionally the same.
Forever guarantee: We stand behind the quality of our swords. After your sword is created at the forge, we will send you pictures and will only ship after your approval. If at any time you have issues with the craftsmanship of your sword, please reach out to us and we will do our best to make things right.
Unless indicated otherwise, every sword is hand-forged and made-to-order for a high-quality & unique product created for you. This intricate process takes 3-4 weeks to complete. We’ll send pictures of your sword by email for confirmation (please whitelist sales@swordsofnorthshire.com to make sure you get our email). Tanto and wakizashi swords usually take around 4 weeks. Highly customized swords such as blades of a custom length or custom painted scabbards will typically take 4-5 weeks. For most orders, we estimate 4-6 weeks from the time the order is submitted to when you receive it. If you need a sword by a specific date or within a shorter time frame, contact us and we can see about prioritizing your order.
We ship to anywhere in the United States for free! For all other countries, we offer a flat shipping rate of $19.
Customers are responsible for customs taxes & duties.
Yes, you can customize every sword on our website. Even if you’re not happy with the existing options available to you, you can request just about any change you could think of. We can change most fittings, wrappings, and blade coloring (black, red, or blue) for free. These kinds of requests can be made in the order comments section during checkout. If what you need done is more complex and might cost extra, please contact us with your request. If you make a request in the comments section when ordering your sword and it happens to cost extra we’ll kindly follow-up and explain the cost difference and send an invoice for the cost if you’re happy with it.

Good quality, but not something I'd want to phisicly hit stuff with. Then again its not a 1000 dollar sword so that makes sense. Real and nice enough to be better than 95 percent of swords I see at stores

The katana arrived in excellent condition and feels very good to handle and use. I will definitely order another one in the near future. My only issue were the high import fees, however I know that Swords of Northshire have no control over that.

A couple of years ago I ordered a custom Katana. Full custom including the blade length, in 9260 spring steel, muted colors, my choice of the eagle hardware. It needed a matching Wakizashi so I looked up the details of the first order and built it using the online configurator. They matched it perfectly, it is a beautiful sword, the only noticeable difference is that the smith's name is on the blade, not the tang. If I had to choose between the two, the Wakizashi is probably the more practical, light, nimble in the hand, and perfectly finished and sharpened. They did what they promised, did it well, did it at a reasonable cost, and did it in a reasonable timeframe. You can't ask more of anyone you do business with. Recommended.

This katana is a well crafted sword that has solid material in the kashira (pommel), fuchi (hilt collar), and tsuba( guard) pieces. For display purposes, I believe many people would be satisfied with this katana since it can be customized to present with great aesthetic detail in the various components that comprise its overall design.

I wanted a sword close to a massmune as possible but with upgraded steel and this sword fits my vision a sword dont need to be folded if its made out of todays steel. Swords of northshire gave me the tools and steel i had to make a design and have them forge it fits perfectly with masters massmune ideas about swords this is the best sword I ever owned

Hello great sword makers! I have received this katana from you, and I want to tell you how impressed I am with its construction. It appears to have been made with great care and detail! I cannot find a thing wrong with it. Perfect symmetry of everything crafted overall. The blade seems to disappear when I look down the edge, it is impressive and solid!! The skill and passion towards perfection also shows up in all of the fittings, the amazing tight and beautiful wrapping and the lovely knot work. The packing job and shipping box was excellent and indestructible! Every attention to detail was made to insure that the sword traveled safely in all weather and all conditions. I am very pleased! The blade came out perfect and I couldn't be any happier with it. Only minor issue is its very snug when fully sheathed requiring more force to loosen it in the scabbard. Still a 10 out of 10 work.

The customer support was pretty good! I was travelling at the time so I asked if they could hold from sending it to my house and they were very cooperative. The Katana overall is great especially because it isn't too expensive (though understandably not cheap either) and you're able to customize almost anything. The blade is well made, and it's nice to take care care of it with cleaning, oiling, and sharpening.

I made my own unique weapon, and it turned out precisely how I had intended. I was able to email customer care after I needed to modify the order, and they easily made the necessary adjustments. The only drawback was the wait period; I placed my order close to Christmas, so it makes sense that it took seven weeks to arrive.
The sword itself is of excellent quality; the Ito wrap was extremely tight; the handle is sturdy and stable; the sword is well-balanced, neither too heavy nor too light.

OK. Your Swords seem good especially. Using a. Custom crafting but I want to know something. I have my own metal. I guess you can say I'm a metallurgist or whatever you want to call it. But I have perfected. Wootz steel Also known as Crucible steel. I have a few bars of that. But I want my sword made out of My steel.

Since it's a carbon steel blade, you can wrap the blade in a towel or fabric and use a hard surface like a table to lightly bend the blade back to shape.
