Jian Swords

Chinese jian sword

A jian sword is a double edged blade that has been in use for the last 2,500 years of Chinese history. While it was first mentioned in writing during the 7th century BCE, it was still in use after the invention of guns and cannons. A typical jian blade measures anywhere from 18 to 31 inches long and can weigh between 1.5 to 2 pounds. While this sword is generally wielded with one hand, some jian are for heavier two-handed styles that are used in some Chinese martial arts.

The jian is also known as “The Gentleman of Weapons” in Chinese folklore, and is considered one of the five major weapons including the dao (sabre), gùn (staff), qiang (spear), and halberd. Originally, jian were made of bronze, but today, Chinese jian swords are made from a variety of carbon steels. At Swords of Northshire, our jian are made of 1095 high carbon steel, folded Damascus steel, or clay-tempered steel. Explore our collection of Chinese swords for sale today to find the perfect jian for you.

Our Chinese Jian Swords

At Swords of Northshire, we honor the generations of Chinese and Japanese metal workers that came before us through our dedication to excellence. When you order a sword from our collection, we convey your order to one of our master blacksmiths to begin its creation. They spend two to three weeks perfecting the blade, hilt, and scabbard before pronouncing your order complete. Our craftsmen spend days on every detail, ensuring your sword arrives fully functional and battle-ready.

Whether you need it for practice in the dojo, for use during ceremonies, or you plan to put it on display, each jian sword from our collection is made with the utmost respect to the traditions and techniques of our predecessors.
