Boxed with Care

Every sword from our site is made to order specifically for you, but our custom katanas are a little more special, as you get to personalize every single part of the weapon — from the blade length and material to the handguard design and handle wrapping color.

This client’s custom katana was boxed with great care in foam and tape so that it would arrive in perfect condition. As the sword is unboxed, you can see that it’s also wrapped in a plastic bag within the box to protect the sword bag from damage. Additionally, the handle is wrapped in plastic to prevent the tsuka-ito from unraveling during shipping, and the blade is oiled for shipping to protect the metal from the elements and other contaminants

Custom Katana Review & Demonstration

At the dojo, our client and his sensei check the weight and fittings of the katana to ensure everything is secure. They see that the blade fits perfectly into the sheath — no metal showing outside of the saya. The sensei smoothly removes the blade and checks the center of balance which sits about a hands-length down from the grip.

This client chose a custom engraving with the image of a crane on the blade, which was perfectly replicated by our blacksmiths. There is no bo-hi groove for this weapon, but there is a delicate hamon line and unique swirling pattern across the entire blade that developed as the blacksmiths folded the metal over and over to remove any impurities.
