This Gyaku-Kobuse Katana is constructed with two different kinds of steel, folded steel (8,192 layers) on the outside, and 1095 high carbon steel making the core and cutting edge. The visible undulating grain pattern on the blade is a result from folding the steel 13 times during forging. The blade is completely polished with Hazuya which is a very thin Uchigumori stone. The Hazuya is used to bring out the beautiful cloudy hamon (temper line). The blade is repeatedly heat treated and hand forged to remove impurities. The clay temper process combines the characters of toughness and flexibility and results in a genuine hamon (temper line) which is enhanced by the Hazuya stone. The blade is full tang and hand sharpened, suitable for battle. The sword comes with a high quality carved black hardwood saya with piano finish, silk sageo/ito, premium brass fittings, and genuine same (rayskin). This sword is a very good choice for dojo and iaido use, gifts, cutting practice, display, and collection. It is durable enough for tameshigiri, bamboo, bones, and iron wire.
