This high quality tanto is made of high carbon 1095 steel, clay tempered with a traditional polish usually reserved for tamahagane blades. The blade is completely polished with Hazuya and Jizuya which are very thin Uchigumori stones. The Hazuya is used to bring out the stark contrast of the hamon (temper line). It is a very strong blade made with traditional methods, for multiple applications. The blade is repeatedly heat treated and hand forged to remove impurities. The clay temper process combines the characters of toughness and flexibility and results in a genuine hamon (temper line) which is enhanced by the Hazuya and Jizuya stones. The blade is full tang and hand sharpened, suitable for battle. The sword comes with a full rayskin wrapped handle and painted hardwood saya with buffalo horn fittings. This tanto is a very good choice for dojo and iaido use, gifts, cutting practice, display, and collection. It is durable enough for tameshigiri, bamboo, bones, and iron wire.
