Made with smelted iron sand and charcoal, the steel used in this blade is tamahagane, or jewel steel. Our master craftsmen smelt these materials in a traditional Tatara furnace and then forge a durable blade by folding out all the impurities in the steel. Using traditional Japanese methods passed down through the generations, this tamahagane katana for sale at Swords of Northshire is forged, sharpened, engraved, and polished by hand.
Clay tempering produces a natural hamon line in the metal, and hazuya and jizuya stones are used to polish the blade and accentuate the hamon line and grain pattern. It takes our craftsmen 25 - 30 days to fully polish each tamahagane steel katana. We highly recommend this sword for serious collectors.
This tamahagane katana for sale also comes with a black lacquered hardwood saya, silk and ray skin wrapped tsuka, and premium iron fittings. A sword bag and spare mekugi are included with your purchase. You can expect this sword to take about two months from forging to completion.
