This Tanto sword is hand forged and hand sharpened using Japanese methods to create the perfect blade for iaido and kenjutsu use. The blade is heat-treated, tempered, and oil quenched to achieve optimal levels of flexibility and hardness. Finally, the blade is hand polished with multiple grades of sharpening stones which makes the surface of the blade reflective like a mirror. It comes with a black lacquered hard wood saya and silk sageo/ito, solid alloy fittings, and genuine same (rayskin). The full tang is secured into the handle with two bamboo mekugi. It is a very good choice for Dojo students, gifts, cutting practice, and display. The sword is durable enough for tameshigiri. Each sword is individually handmade so specifications vary slightly from sword to sword.

This is my second "build" from Swords of Northshire. I am very pleased. The turn-around time is impressive considering that is is coming from such a long distance. Swordsmith Yao's name was on the shipping paperwork. I don't know if he did the entire build himself or not. It probably is not possible, but I would love to see a video showing the finishing and sharpening of the blade. It is quite sharp. I have done a little sharpening of katana profile blades myself and I have found it to be a distinct challenge, bordering on art. I enjoy being able to choose blades made from different types of steel and with different finishing features. I am afraid that collecting the swords is becoming addictive.

The build quality of the sword was great. My only complaint is that the blade could be sharper.
