Japanese Tanto Blades
The Japanese tanto blade has a very unique shape that was designed to pierce armor during battle. The spine curves upward with a tip that rises dramatically to complete the swell of the blade. This shape makes it ideal for stabbing but not as useful for slicing. Since it was used by samurai in feudal Japan, the tanto dagger has been reinvented for modern use by American soldiers. At Swords of Northshire, we focus on the traditional look and feel of the tanto blade that operates as a companion for your other samurai blades.
Style of our Tanto Swords
While Japanese tanto blades are typically a type of short sword that measure in at about 12 inches, we offer curved shirasaya tantos as well as straight tanto knives to meet your personal aesthetic. If you wear a long shirasaya blade, you’ll want your tanto to mimic the simplicity of the style, as they are meant to be worn together. Prefer a traditional katana? Get a fully mounted tanto.
Since we specialize in Japanese and Chinese weaponry, our tanto blades also showcase traditional Asian themes with wooden handles, dragon details, and ito wrappings. These knives are hand forged with damascus or high carbon steel to ensure a strong, flexible blade. They are available individually or in a traditional samurai sword set.
