This was the first proper katana I'd ever purchased. It feels solid, the blade was very smoothe and I'm sure it would perform well, although I haven't tested it. The blade doesn't arrive razor sharp, although it's sharp enough to be properly used in combat without dulling too quickly. The Ito (handle wrapping) was very firm, the "twists" between diamonds gave it an excellent grip. As far as complaints go, I only have two. One: Everything was packaged very tightly. Everything was wrapped in plastic, and the spare mekugi were taped to the plastic over handle wrapping. They broke in the process of removing them. Also, the mekugi (the wooden pegs that hold the tang in the hilt) were a tad inconsistently placed. The mekugi closer to the bottom of the hilt sticks out a bit, although it doesn't extend past the handle wrapping. It's a good first sword to purchase, that's for sure. I'll edit this after I put it through a cutting test.

Great looking sword, feels totally solid. I had it slightly customized to closely match the feel and weight of my custom Katana that I also got from Swords of North Shire. They were totally ablieging in doing that to one of there standard swords.
