It is a wonderful work by Swords of Northshire. When I received the iaito katana, it was perfectly wrapped and in flawless condition. As soon as I got the sword out of the box, I examined the piece carefully. - The kashira (pommel) was tight - The tsuba (hand guard) was firm in place (and crafted excellently as well) - Habaki (blade collar) encircled the blade quite well - The hi (blood groove) was lined very well, with uniform depth - The kissaki (blade tip) was elegant - Overall blade was beautifully crafted I ordered the blade and I asked them to engrave a Japanese Kanji and also my name on the blade, and they have made a magnificent job. I could not see a flaw in any parts of the sword as a whole. A huge thanks to Swords of Northshire. Keep up the excellent work. - a swordsman and blacksmith. :)

This is my second custom katana from Swords of Northshire. My first was an Iaito (unsharpened blade for Iaido practice)that I use quite often for Iaido and am very pleased with the quality and appearance. This sword, I ordered sharpened and plan to use it for cutting tatami and some kata practice. It's beautiful and seems to be even better assembled then my last one! The wrapping is perfect, the saya (matte black) is very nice and fits tight, the sageo is good enough for Iaido (most budget swords from other manufactures are not). Both of my swords from SON are 1060 steel, which is good enough for what I need. I am very pleased with the quality of these swords. I haven't disassembled this new one yet, but I have disassembled my other one and I must say that of the various swords I own, these ones are the best for requiring NO filing or refitting of tsubas etc. They come apart and go back together tight. I'm all ready planning a third purchase, these are the best deal on swords I have found.

I had my son customize his katana one day and then months later I bought it for him and surprised him for his birthday. This katana is the talk of my house. He loves it. The craftsmanship on this was extremely good. Had it engraved and even got the stand for it. I will be purchasing another smaller one to fit his stand. Great customer service and fast delivery.

I'm very pleased with my custom katana. The blade is smooth and the polish shows the folding and hamon exceptionally well. It's lighter than what I'm used to. I own a number of Cheness and Hanwei blades and this one is by far the most maneuverable and well balanced. It slices through small dowels, PVC pipe and bamboo like through butter. After some 20 hours of use it shows no significant scratches and is as sharp as new. The fittings are all tight and the ito has not moved an inch, which is a common problem with many of my other swords. The habaki is nicely fitted to the blade as opposed to the blade being filed to fit. The saya is a little loose which sometimes causes the blade to cut into the wood while re-sheathing but this is a common problem with many katana and easily solved with proper technique. Although I've not measured, it seems like the Sakihaba and Monouchi is a little thicker than the rest of the blade which makes it nice for cutting. The customer service was exceptional and delivery was fast. I will certainly recommend these blades to others.
